| Dryland
(By gonzo) |
| It's always been my dream to sail
the seven Drylands. I have spent my life so far saving enough sliver coins for
a boat. As soon as I'd earned the coins I needed, I had them melted down and
made into a boat. And once the sails had set and come out of their jelly
moulds, I hoist them up and started off on my adventure. To the biggest Dryland
of them all: Terra incognita. Looking though the binoculars, Terra incognita seem much bigger and closer than I thought. I then realised that I was looking thought the wrong end, I reversed them and saw that Terra was still a safe distance away. I had time to eat lunch before I crossed the border so I sat on the deck of cards, opened my packed lunch, and started eating one of my sandwiches. I had only just half eaten one half of the sandwich when I unexpectedly crossed the border. The boat was attacked by a herd of creatures I called turtle-ants, and their beaks were snapping at my keel; the border was a lot crosser than I expected. I threw the turtle-ants the other half of my sandwich which seemed to scared them off (it was a piccalilli and lime jelly sandwich.) Since I was unsafely across the border into Terra incognita, I decided to rest for the night. I was awakened the next day upon hearing the crack of dawn. I decided that today would be the day I searched for the legendary Here be dragons which I had heard was the main feature of Terra incognita . Anyway I only had one more day left before I had to return, as I had already eaten my packed lunch. I decided just to sail for a while and see what happened. Not much longer had passed before I bumped into something with an enormous BUMP. It appeared to be a ridge of land. I climbed up the mast to get a better view. The ridge was made out of rock and was shaped like the letter H. Next to it were ridges shaped like the letters E, R, E, B, E, D, R, A, and G. The next ridge was shaped like a circle - but there was huge dragon coming out of it! I wanted to record the sighting so everyone would believe what I had seen. So I quickly got out my notebook and wrote down a description: Shiny with red and green stripes, big teeth, flaming nostril, coming towards me. The dragon came up to the boat and gave me a funny look so I laughed. He mustn't have liked the sound of my laugh because he lunged at my boat and took a bite out of one of the sails. The sail was made of orange jelly and he must have liked it because he gobbled it all down. My other big sail was made of lemon jelly and he gobbled that all down too. I would be stranded if he ate the last sail. I didn't have any oars because I had decided to bring ands. The Dragon took one bite out of my last sail and ran away as fast as he could: the last sail was made from lime jelly and he hated the taste of it. So I was able to sail out of Terra to safety, I had to go slowly with just one sail but at least I could enjoy the scenery. So the moral of the story is: If you're sailing across strange lands, don't have sails that taste nice to dragons. |
